Strange Creatures
Artwork by Hold Fast! You Maker

Open Daily: 8 am - 9 pm
303 Arch Street, Perkasie Pa 18944
Strange Creatures is a collection of bright, bold animal illustrations inspired by three unlikely sources: Eastern European matchbook art from the 1940s and ’50s, the colorful fantasy illustrations in 1970s children’s books, and the music that soundtracked Keith Bowman’s creative journey.
Each piece features an animal inspired by a favorite song or album, reimagined through Bowman’s modern illustration style. The result is a collection of strange, colorful creatures that blends the feel of vintage graphic design with a tinge of psychedelic fantasy.

The piece was inspired by TV on the Radio’s “Wolf Like Me”
Dream me, oh, dreamer, down to the floor
Open my hands and let them weave onto yours
Feel me, completer, down to my core
Open my heart and let it bleed onto yours
Feeding on fever, down on all fours
Show you what all the howling is for

This piece was inspired by Midlake's song “Bandits.”
Did you ever want to be overrun by bandits?
To hand over all of your things and start over new
While we were out hunting for food
Our house was being robbed
I caught an apple and she caught a fox
So I caught a rabbit, but she caught an ox
So upon our return
We found everything gone
Which for us was no loss
We started over
With a rabbit and an ox

Meet the Artist
Keith Bowman, AKA Hold Fast! You Maker’s work explores how images accumulate meaning through color, pattern, and repetition, suggesting memory, place, and atmosphere.
Using a limited Day-Glo-inspired palette from the 1970s, the work draws on the visual systems of urban environments such as layered posters, graffiti, advertising, and weathered public surfaces. Rather than replicating these scenes, the artist translates their underlying logic into compositions shaped by layering, interruption, and controlled disruption.
Pattern is treated as unstable rather than decorative, shifting between order and breakdown to create tension within the image.
Across painting and printmaking, the work builds spaces that feel both constructed and unstable, familiar but difficult to fully place.

This gallery could never have become a reality without the support of many, especially these people who were there at the start. We are deeply grateful for their support

Make an Impact Today
I want this project to be as accessible as possible. Rather than locking content behind subscriptions or asking people to join another monthly membership, I'd rather keep the artwork, exhibitions, and creative process open to everyone.
If you believe in what I'm building and would like to help support it, you're welcome to make a donation. Every contribution helps me spend more time creating artwork, curating exhibitions, and sharing them with the community, rather than chasing algorithms or producing content for the sake of attention.
Just as valuable is helping spread the word. Tell a friend, share an exhibition, post about the gallery, or invite someone to visit. Projects like this grow through genuine enthusiasm and word of mouth, and every person who shares it becomes part of the community that's helping it thrive.
Whether you choose to donate, share the project, or simply spend time with the work, thank you for being here.
Authenticity Over Algorithms
Algorithms reward noise. We're interested in something quieter. Manual Gallery 303 has a social media presence because artists deserve visibility, but we refuse to let the metrics drive the mission.
We're on social media. We're not of it. The best way to stay connected isn't through a feed — it's through our newsletter. No middleman, no algorithm deciding whether you see it. Just a direct line to what's happening at the gallery: upcoming exhibits, events, and artist features, alongside exclusive offers, shop discounts, and material you won't find anywhere else. It's free to sign up, and it's the closest thing we have to a real community bulletin board.
